Choose the right water-damage guide

A useful repair decision starts with diagnosis, written scope and post-repair checks.

Why liquid events differ

ExposureWhy it matters
Clean fresh waterCan still short or corrode components, but may leave fewer residues
Salt waterHighly conductive and corrosive; residue remains after drying
Soft drink, coffee or other liquidSugar, acid or particles can cause continuing contamination
Steam or repeated humidityCan enter gradually and may not resemble one obvious immersion

Do not confuse drying with repair

A phone that turns on after drying may still develop corrosion later. Conversely, a moisture alert does not prove permanent damage. Avoid repeated charging and power cycles while liquid may remain inside.

Warranty and insurance are separate

Manufacturer limited warranties commonly exclude liquid damage even where the phone had an IP rating. Insurance may cover accidental liquid damage only if it is included and no exclusion applies. Statutory rights can still matter if the product did not conform to the contract, but an IP rating is not a promise of permanent resistance in every real-world situation.

Liquid indicators are evidence, not a full diagnosis

Some phones contain liquid-contact indicators. A triggered indicator can support evidence of exposure, but it does not identify every damaged component or explain when the event happened. An untriggered visible indicator does not prove that no liquid reached another area.

Maintain a recovery plan

Water damage is one reason backups and account recovery matter. The site does not provide detailed data-transfer instructions, but ownership planning should ensure that the loss of one phone does not remove access to banking, email and authentication.
