Check the operator
Find the legal company name, address, complaints route and current terms. A polished quote-comparison page may refer you to a different buyer, so identify who receives the phone and owes the payment.
Warning signs in a recycling offer
- The legal buyer is not identified before you send the phone.
- The quote is advertised as guaranteed but the terms permit broad deductions.
- There is no clear route to reject a revised offer.
- Return postage after rejection is unclear.
- The site claims secure data destruction without explaining whether working devices are resold.
Check Companies House details where useful, but do not treat registration alone as proof of service quality.
Prepare and document
Remove accounts and data, record the IMEI and condition, follow the service’s packing rules and keep tracking. Do not send a swollen or damaged battery until the service confirms a safe method.
Do not confuse “recycled” with “destroyed”
A working phone may be resold. If your priority is secure destruction rather than reuse, ask for the exact process and evidence rather than relying on a general environmental claim.
