A deal-finding page should help you create a shortlist, not decide the purchase for you. Comparison sites, networks, retailers and manufacturer stores may each show different offers, but every candidate must be reduced to the same set of facts.
Where to look

| Source | Useful for | Check carefully |
|---|---|---|
| Network direct | Service terms and network-specific offers | Total price, device plan and upgrade wording |
| Specialist retailer | Cross-network handset deals | Who provides the contract, returns and cashback conditions |
| Manufacturer | Outright purchase and device finance | Lender, trade-in assumptions and exact model |
| Comparison site | Initial market scan | Filters, freshness, sponsored placement and final checkout terms |
| Refurbished seller | Lower device cost | Grade, battery, seller evidence, warranty and returns |
Use a fixed shortlist
Before searching, write down:
- maximum upfront spend;
- maximum comfortable monthly commitment;
- minimum realistic data allowance;
- required storage;
- acceptable contract length;
- networks that work in your regular locations;
- whether refurbished or previous-generation phones are acceptable.
This prevents a large allowance or promotional gift from moving you into a more expensive phone than you intended.
Comparison pages are not the final source
Open the retailer or provider’s current offer and read the contract summary. Confirm that the comparison result still matches:
- the exact handset and storage;
- upfront and monthly price;
- contract term;
- scheduled rises;
- data allowance;
- cashback or gift conditions;
- delivery and returns.
Separate ranking from sponsorship
A prominent result may be sponsored, commercially prioritised or selected by an affiliate arrangement. That does not make it unsuitable, but it does not prove it is best for your circumstances. Re-rank the shortlist by your total cost and requirements.

A good shortlist is small
Three genuinely comparable offers are normally more useful than twenty screenshots with different devices and allowances. Keep the final contract summary and the offer page for the deal you choose.
