A compatible connector does not by itself prove that a charger is safe, suitable or capable of the advertised speed. Check the adaptor, cable, phone and seller as one system.
Match four things

More wattage is not automatically faster
A higher-rated adaptor normally provides only what a correctly designed compatible phone requests, but advertised maximum wattage does not guarantee that the phone supports that speed. Check the manufacturer’s charging information.
Buy from a traceable seller
Electrical equipment placed on the GB market is subject to safety requirements. Look for an identifiable manufacturer or importer, coherent specifications and a real contact route. Search the UK Product Safety Alerts, Reports and Recalls database when a product or seller appears doubtful.
Retire damaged equipment
Stop using an adaptor or cable with exposed conductors, cracking, loose pins, scorching, intermittent connection, an unusual smell or abnormal heat. Do not repair a mains adaptor with tape.
USB-C needs precision
USB-C describes a connector, not one universal speed or capability. Some cables charge only, some carry data at different rates, and some support higher power or display output. Buy for the required function.
Do not assume a charger must be in the box
Check the exact package contents before purchase. Reusing a suitable safe adaptor can reduce cost and waste; buying a new one may still be necessary when the old unit is incompatible or damaged.
Travel and multi-port chargers
Check how total power is shared when several ports are used. A charger advertised at 100W may not deliver that output to every port simultaneously. For travel, confirm plug arrangements and do not use loose or damaged adaptors.
What abnormal heat means
Some warmth during fast charging can be normal. Heat that is painful to touch, accompanied by smell, discolouration, noise or repeated charging interruption is a reason to disconnect and investigate. Do not cover an adaptor during use.
