Start with useful life
Keeping a suitable supported phone in service, repairing it when rational and passing it to another user can reduce demand for another device. That does not mean every old phone should be kept indefinitely: security, battery safety and actual suitability still matter.
Be sceptical of broad claims
Terms such as eco-friendly, carbon neutral or sustainable need clear scope and evidence. A recyclable box does not describe the full lifecycle of the phone.
