A phone does not have one objective resale value. It has a private-sale range, several trade-in offers and sometimes a recycling value. The useful figure is the net amount you can realistically receive for the exact device in its actual condition.

Use exact comparables
Match model, storage, connectivity variant, condition, battery information, repairs, included accessories and seller type. A trader listing with a warranty is not a direct comparable for an anonymous private sale without returns.
Use sold evidence, not memory
The original purchase price and the manufacturer’s former retail price do not establish today’s value. Current completed sales and live trade-in offers are more useful. Asking prices that remain unsold are evidence of seller ambition, not buyer demand.
Keep three numbers
- Fast-sale price: a defensible lower figure for a quick private transaction.
- Normal private range: what comparable devices genuinely achieve.
- Trade-in floor: the best acceptable verified offer after reading the downgrade rules.
