When a phone disappears, the first aim is personal safety and account protection. Recovery, police reporting, network blocking and insurance are separate actions. The correct order depends on whether the phone is merely misplaced, clearly stolen or accessible to someone who knows the passcode.

Immediate sequence
- Move to safety and use another device.
- Ring, locate and mark the phone lost where available.
- Contact the network to protect the SIM and discuss IMEI blocking.
- Report theft to police; do not describe a simple loss as theft.
- Protect email, banking, wallet and work accounts.
- Notify employer and insurer where relevant.
- Keep reference numbers, map evidence and a timeline.
If someone may know the passcode, prioritise account and payment security rather than waiting for a perfect location update.
